Why it happened, in plain English
The filed reason is short: “Multi-state outbreak of E. coli O157:H7.” It is not a “potential” contamination. This recall was triggered by illnesses, and the record lists it as ongoing. The products are raw-milk cheddars in 8 oz and 16 oz retail sizes and in 80 oz bulk blocks and shreds, distributed to AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, IN, MD, NV and TX.
The labels say it themselves: “NEVER WARMED ABOVE 102F (TRULY RAW).” Pasteurization is the kill step for E. coli O157:H7 in milk, and this product is made without it by design. That leaves aging, salt and acidity as the only barriers, and the outbreak record shows they were not enough here. The bulk 80 oz items matter for readers: those went to foodservice or repackers, and the record does not say who. The record does not say where on the farm the contamination came from.
Who else should care
Retailers and delis that cut or shred raw-milk cheese from bulk blocks, and any specialty grocer that carries raw dairy under its own label. If you bought Raw Farm bulk cheddar and repackaged it, your product is in this recall too, even though your name is not.
Check: whether every raw-milk product you sell can be traced back to a supplier lot and pulled from your shelf within a day, because an outbreak recall is measured in illnesses, not in days.
