Why it happened, in plain English

The filed reason is “Undeclared peanuts.” The label declares milk and soy and carries a facility statement, but peanut is not in the ingredient list. The record does not say how peanut got into the product: a mis-pack, a shared line, or a raisin or chocolate ingredient that carried it. It does show the distribution: one retail customer, which moved the product into its own California stores. First Street is that customer’s brand, not Western Mixers’.

This is a small event, 29 cases. It is worth reading for what the label tells you. A facility warning on the back of a package is not an allergen declaration and does not protect a firm when peanut is actually in the product. For a nut and dried-fruit packer that runs peanuts on the same equipment, the controls are line clearance, verified cleaning, and a finished-product check that matches contents to label before the case is sealed.

Who else should care

Nut, dried fruit and confection packers that make retailer-brand products on lines that also run peanuts. Chocolate-covered items are the difficult case: the coating hides what is under it, so a visual check on the line does not catch a stray peanut cluster in a raisin run.

Retailers with a private-label nut program should notice that their brand carried the recall in the stores. Check: whether your allergen changeover between a peanut run and a non-peanut run includes a documented cleaning verification, and not just a “may contain” statement on the back of the bag.

This firm's record

Western Mixers has one earlier event in the file: a March 2026 Class II recall of 384 cases of Chilli Spanish Peanuts, under the First Street and Treasured Harvest brands, after glass was found inside a sealed container. Two recalls in three months, both on retailer-brand product, one a foreign object and one an allergen.
