Why it happened, in plain English

The filed reason says it: the firm was notified by its supplier that the nonfat dry milk may be contaminated with Salmonella. Griffith had no failure of its own. One upstream ingredient, recalled by its producer (California Dairies, in a separate Class I record), propagated into products carrying national brand names that never bought milk powder.

This is the same mechanism as the summer’s moringa and jalapeño cascades: an ingredient recall becomes a brand recall two steps downstream, and FDA’s record names each step separately.

Who else should care

Seasoning and blend makers, and any brand whose private-label products are made by one. The names on the recalled products here, Costco and Chick-fil-A, are the ones the public remembers.

Check: whether your dry-ingredient suppliers, especially dairy powders, have a written obligation to notify you within 24 hours of their own recall, and whether that notification reaches a person, not a shared inbox.
