Why it happened, in plain English

This is a bulk ingredient recall: milk powder in 25 kg bags and 2,200 pound totes, sold to manufacturers, not consumers. The filed reason is potential Salmonella contamination. Dry milk powder is a low-moisture ingredient; Salmonella survives in it for months and it goes into products with no further kill step, such as dry seasonings.

The downstream records tell the rest: Griffith Foods, PS Seasoning and Solina each recalled seasoning products in the following weeks, two of them citing a supplier’s milk-powder recall as the reason.

Who else should care

Every manufacturer that buys dairy powders as an ingredient: seasoning blenders, bakery mix makers, confectioners, nutrition-bar and protein-powder brands.

Check: which of your dry-ingredient suppliers could take three of your SKUs off the market with one phone call, and whether you have tested a lot from them yourself in the last year.
